We have just had an exciting new paper published in this month’s issue of Biological Conservation (March 2026), a leading international journal. The paper is all about water policy, focussed on bitterns, bell frogs, painted-snipe and the integration of agriculture and conservation in the Murray-Darling.
Firstly, it draws on the land sparing versus sharing debate, which seemed to forget about water, and introduces a water sparing versus sharing concept. It then develops new water water sharing policy options for conserving threatened species in the Murray-Darling and assesses the public’s values towards them.
